Williamsport Area High School
"Grease"
Press Release
The Williamsport Area High School will present its musical production of
"Grease" on April 4th & 5th at 7:30 P.M. in the Williamsport Area High School
Auditorium. "Grease", under the direction of Kent Weaver and Anna Radspinner,
includes a cast of 121 students from grades nine through twelve.
"Grease", written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, depicts everything we would
expect to happen in a high school and adds an element of fun that anyone can
relate to. Set in Rydell Senior High School in 1959, the show follows the
senior year of the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds, two ruffian cliques, on their
way to graduation. Danny Zuko, played by junior, Chris Hess, is the "slick",
smooth talking leader of the T- Birds who falls in love with the sweet and
innocent Sandy Dumbrowski, played by senior, Kacie Weaver. However, because of
Danny's diamond-in-the-rough attitude, none of his friends will accept Sandy
into their circle without giving her and Danny a rough time. At first, instead
of facing ridicule from his friends, he gives Sandy the cold shoulder only to
realize later that he really is in love with her. But will he ever win her back
or has she seen through this tough guy attitude?
Love blooms and tempers flare as friends pull their usual antics against one another creating a series of hilarious vignettes. Classic songs that fuel the performance include "Summer Lovin," "Greased Lightning," "Born to Hand Jive," and the timeless "We Go Together". When asked about exciting aspects of the show Kent Weaver, director, stated; "I think the audience will just be amazed to see over 120 kids having a blast up on stage. It's all about having a great time and involving our audience in that excitement."
The Williamsport Area High School continues its superior performance tradition with this 1950's, "take me back," musical extravaganza. Audience members will join Sandy, Danny, Rizzo (Mallory Scoppa), Kenickie (Jamal Barone) and the rest of the T- Birds and Pink Ladies for a night of rock n' roll that assistant director Anna Radspinner says, "is sure to have you tapping your feet in the aisles and doing the hand jive on the way out the door."
Tickets are five dollars and will be available at the door on the night of the performance. Advance tickets can be purchased from cast members, the WAHS Main Office, or the WASD Music Office (District Service Center, 201 West Third Street, phone 327-5500 ext. 3517).
The audience is encouraged to “get into the spirit” and wear 1950's apparel and memorabilia to the performance!
