Certified Nursing Assistant Program is a Success!

The Certified Nursing Assistant program being provided by the Williamsport Area School District and the Susquehanna Health System  began on January 9, 2002 and will conclude on March 21, 2002.  Currently, ten students are enrolled in the program and are excited about their clinical instruction, which began on Thursday February 7, 2002, at Valley View Nursing Center on Warrensville Road.

Students completing the program will be eligible for the state test to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. The Susquehanna Health System is willing to hire any student that completes the program and plans to take the state test. These students are eligible for the cooperative education program at the WAHS for the 2002-2003 school year. Students employed as CNAs can earn up to 2 WAHS credits with participation in the cooperative education program. The only cost students will incur for the program is the purchase of uniforms needed for the clinical instruction.

Pennsylvania regulations stipulate 110 hours of instruction for the program. Any student absent from the first 2 weeks of class must be terminated from the program. Thereafter, any student absent for 11 hours must be terminated from the program. All missed class or clinical time must be made up, and make-up dates are March 26 – 28.
