Join the Campaign! Share the ‘pride and promise’ of WASD schools!
On November 19th,
2002, the Williamsport Area School District Board announced that it has
joined a statewide public outreach campaign, coordinated by the PSBA, designed
to promote the accomplishments, accountability and value of Pennsylvania's
publi The campaign in the Williamsport Area School District will focus on quality education and highlight student achievement in the district's schools. It will feature current students, prominent graduates, parent-teacher organizations and extensive outreach to business, community and government organizations and leaders. Because never before have the state’s public schools been so challenged by competitive alternatives (vouchers, privatized schools, for-profit schools, charter schools, home schools, cyber schools) to prove their worth locally and throughout the state.
Why is our school district participating? Because we believe we provide quality education to this community and it is time we marketed our product just like everyone else, particularly to answer critics of public education, negative media reports and increasing competition. We have excellent teachers, administrators and support staff, achieving students, a hard-working school board and a lot of good news stories to tell. We’re proud of our accomplishments, we see great promise in the future, and it’s time we said so.
What’s going to be the campaign focus? Student achievement; quality curriculum and instruction; excellent teachers, administrators and support staff; district and board leadership; outstanding graduates; committed volunteers; and the overall value we provide to the community. We want to instill a long-overdue sense of pride for everyone involved in public education.
Who’s going to participate in the local campaign? Everyone who agrees with its purpose – the superintendent and other administrators, school board members, district employees, students, parents, businesses, service and civic organizations – just about everyone who shares in our pride and promise.
