Why is Williamsport Area High School Home of the Millionaires?

According to our research, Williamsport Area High School is one of only two high schools in the nation to use a "Millionaire" as its mascot (the other is Bramwell High School in West Virginia).

This project involves the study of the historical and cultural aspects of the Williamsport community during the mid-1800's when Williamsport was known as the "lumber capital of the world" and boasted more millionaires per capita than anyplace else in the country. The project focuses primarily on the background and history of Williamsport's Historic District, West Fourth Street, now known as "Millionaires Row."
