Lycoming Valley PTO

WELCOMES YOU!

We hope you find this site informative and continue to read on about our organization.  Please feel free to contact us any time via e-mail at: LycoPTO@wasd.org or, if you don’t have access to e-mail, we can be reached via the school principals.  Lycoming Valley PTO values Parent involvement!

Our Mission

To develop a strong bond between educators and parents that will ensure every child the highest advantage of mental, physical, and social education.  This organization shall be non-profit, nonsectarian, and nonpartisan.

Our Goals

In addition to assisting with funding for the Montour Preserve field trip, providing for an end of the year party for departing eighth graders, and supporting school initiatives, our goal as a PTO is to help families develop a connection with the school community, to keep you informed, and bring you “into the loop”.

We do this by:

q       Providing PTO meetings four times a year: September 15th, November 17th, January 19th, and April 20th.  Meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. in the school dining room and are open to all parents.   We welcome & encourage your attendance!  Meetings provide a wonderful opportunity to:

o       Meet our Principal and Assistant Principal, who present us with updates regarding education, school events, and other activities going on at the school.  They are available to answer questions or set up a future meeting if needed.

o       Meet other parents

o       Alert you to volunteer opportunities

q       Encouraging you to read the “ECHO” our school’s monthly newsletter.  The PTO section provides monthly updates and the calendar highlights activities at the school, as well as extracurricular events.  Family attendance is encourage at all school sponsored activities and events!

q       Providing you with this website along with monthly highlights. *Click on Monthly Highlights in the left hand border for information pertaining to the current month.

q       Providing you with volunteer opportunities and ways to increase your involvement in our school and organization.  Volunteer opportunities include: Bookfair, Membership Drive, Bakers, Hospitality, Chaperones & Ushers as needed, Distributing PSSA snacks before school, and serving as a PTO officer/chair.

WHAT WE DO:

We sponsor activities that promote a bond between parents and educators:

q       Purchase staff appreciation and retirement gifts

q       Fund a Sunshine account for special needs or recognition that may arise

q       Provide refreshments for visitations, receptions, and school events

q       Annually purchase a book for “school board appreciation”

q       Provide books from our bookfair to be used as student incentives

q       Provide volunteer ushers at the faculty spaghetti dinner & student talent show

Sponsor activities to promote our students physically, mentally, and socially:

q       We host a Fall & Spring Bookfair, which provides students with affordable literature.  Our spring bookfair allows each student who purchases a book to receive a second of equal or lesser value free from the PTO

q       We provide a WAHS Graduation Award to a graduating senior who attended Lycoming Valley Middle School

q       Plan, fund, and host the annual 8th grade Party/Social

q       Help fund the annual 8th grade educational trip to Montour Preserve

q       Provide Chaperones for school dances as needed

HOW WE FUND WHAT WE DO:

We depend on our membership drive to fund the majority of our activities.  This is why YOUR MEMBERSHIP is so IMPORTANT!

q       Our Membership Drive runs the first full week in September and at our Back-to-School Night in September.  Membership is $5/individual ($10/family would be wonderful!)

q       PTO Bake Sale/Dessert Table & Theme Basket Raffle held in conjunction with the Faculty Spaghetti Dinner & Student Talent Show in February
q        Profits from the Fall Bookfair

We’re glad to have you as a part of our PTO and are looking forward to seeing you at our meetings.  *Please make sure to click on the headings on the left margin to see more details.
