8th Grade Connected Mathematics and Algebra I My name is Matt Palmatier. I'm starting my 4th year of teaching at Lycoming Valley Middle School. I graduated from Lock Haven University in May 2007 with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education along with a certification in Middle School Mathematics. I am currently working towards my masters in middle school mathematics at Walden University. This year we are continuing to use our Math 8 curriculum called Connected Mathematics 2, commonly referred to as CMP2. CMP2 is an inquiry based curriculum that requires a lot of student involvement and critical thinking. The students should be familiar with Connected Math from 7th grade. I also teach an Algebra I class. Algebra is a branch of mathematics that deals with numbers, letters known as variables, linear and quadratic equations, and systems of equations and inequalities. We will be applying the content learned to many real-life situations in which algebra is used. I'm look forward to working with and getting know your son or daughter throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child, you may contact me by e-mail at mpalmati@wasd.org or call 494-1700 ext. 47131.
