The Billtown Banner, the student newspaper, publishes news, opinion, features and sports.  The paper develops a marketable skill for writers, illustrators, photographers, and desktop publishers.  It is written, illustrated, designed and printed by students.
The Cherry and White

The Cherry and White is the WAHS student-produced literary magazine that highlights the year's best creative writing, essays, journalism, art and photography.

Anyone interested in chess may participate. Players need a partner and through play can hone their skills and gamesmanship.

Members of the Executive Board elect class officers, fundraise for charitable purposes and class events, and organize the annual powder puff football game, winter semi-formal, and the prom. Officers must maintain a cumulative average of 85% or above, and Executive Board members are required to maintain a cumulative average of 80% or higher.

Activities include exercises in pantomime, script work, improvisation, school dances, plays, and trips to New York City.  Drama club allows students to express themselves and have fun while making new friends.

The GSA proposes to make students aware that individual differences among people should be respected. The GSA’s primary focus is to combat homophobia, discrimination and harassment based on sexual orientation in all of its forms. The group strives to create a supportive group for students of a sexual minority, yet the group invites all students to join, regardless of race, creed, nationality, physical disability and/or sexual orientation.

The task is to examine contemporary world issues and problems and find solutions, as the United Nations would do so.  We write resolutions and debate resolutions at the mock Model U.N. conventions. Open to all students.

Student organization that focuses on introducing students to today’s legal system. Includes competition where students work to develop a case for both plaintiff and defendant. All students are welcome but must be able to stay after school and find a way home. Early participation is encouraged.

Students work to structure the business segment of things, such as solicitation of ads, as well as sales and distribution of the various WAHS publications, including the yearbook and others.

 

Recycling Club

Open to all students.  Groups of students walk around to the designated recycling drop off locations throughout the school and take the accumulated recyclables to the loading dock and dump them.  We also hope to make a recycling "how to" video and decorate the bins for recycling.

This club will do activities to benefit our local American Red Cross. We are a club interested in planning events to improve health and safety of individuals.

A student-centered organization conducting and participating in activities that support students in making positive decisions. One of the major efforts annually is the Prom Promise initiative to help foster a fun-filled and safe event.

Members strive to go to Ski Sawmill 4 times annually and one other long distance trip.

The club does not hold regular meetings and exists to promote winter snow activities for all interested.

SGA is the Student Government Association which promotes school unity and spirit through maintenance of the Hub Calendar of Events and pep rallies supporting the efforts of our athletes.

Need some ideas to be more successful in school?  “Study to Succeed” sessions are available to all students. You are welcome to attend one study session or more frequently for ideas, strategies, and help. Passes are available in Red Guidance on Mondays or Tuesdays.

Open to all students with an interest in the technical aspects of theatre and television production.   Club involvement will provide experience and practical knowledge through technical assistance for a wide variety of stage and theatrical productions.  Students may work with audio and computer controlled lighting cues, TV production, or video editing.

Volunteer organization where students volunteer helping nonprofit agencies: YMCA, YWCA, Salvation Army, daycare, etc. Advisors have sign-up forms in G003. Students can also assist life skills classrooms helping students with disabilities.
Shooting Club

The shooting club exists to promote marksmanship through training and competition in the various shooting sports. This club seeks students with parent/guardian sponsors who own the necessary equipment to participate in local shooting events or shooting related educational seminars. NOTE: The shooting club does not own, lend or otherwise provide firearms to anyone, including students. Firearms, including archery equipment, arrows or ammunition, are not permitted on school property at any time, for any reason.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives, working together to ensure America has a skilled work force. It helps each student to excel. SkillsUSA is a national organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations. SkillsUSA was formerly known as VICA (the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).

 

SkillsUSA is open to students in any Career and Technical Education, Family and Consumer Science, Health Occupations, or Business courses. Students will learn how to be professionals in their chosen career path. Students will also compete against students from other schools in Skill and Professional competitions.
