{Home of the Cochran Senators!}
Welcome to the website of Mrs. Tracy Mitstifer, Title I Reading Specialist. I currently work with students in the second, third and fourth grades. In second grade, I teach the Early Success (ES) reading program and Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI). In third grade, I teach Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) and Soar to Success (Soar). In fourth grade, I teach Soar to Success (Soar).
Early Success is a supplemental intervention program for first and second graders. It is a daily 30-minute lesson that follows a five-day lesson cycle involving the repeated reading of and guided writing about a short picture book. Phonemic awareness, the application of phonics skills while reading connected text, and comprehension skills are emphasized. Leveled Literacy Intervention is a reading intervention program designed to accelerate the reading skills of struggling readers, usually for grades K-2. Texts for each lesson are sequenced so that skills and concepts build on each other and complexity is gradually increased. Each lesson incorporates practice with word solving, vocabulary, and comprehension. Soar to Success is a small group reading intervention program for third, fourth, and fifth graders. The program uses authentic literature, reciprocal teaching strategies, and graphic organizers to help students accelerate their reading growth. Daily 40-minute lessons reinforce the use of four basic reading strategies: clarifying what is not understood, making predictions, asking questions, and summarizing.
