Since 2004, the Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation has been helping to provide support to students and faculty across the district by promoting, sponsoring and encouraging educational activities. The Foundation is an independent, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to help our school district excel in programs that are not funded by public tax revenues. Individuals from local business, legal, medical, educational and governmental sectors make up the Foundation's 18-member board. OUR MISSION "To secure and sustain resources for the establishment, support and enhancement of programs and activities which enrich education and life experiences in our district." OUR PROGRAMS
Our unrestricted fund is not only vital to the existence of our Foundation but also a key component in the sponsorship of other programs that arise throughout the school year, from plays to musicals, classroom innovations, speakers, student activities — and much more! In an effort to promote literacy through the summer, the Foundation launched a reading program in 2011 for elementary- and middle school-aged students that would require them to reach a goal of reading for at least 30 minutes a day for a minimum of 62 of the 77 days of summer. The Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation's Teacher Mini-Grant Program is designed to give district teachers the opportunity to enhance educational opportunities and activities for students through innovative and creative projects. WASD's Fitness Center Committee, composed of teachers, coaches administrative staff, board members, booster club members, and business and community leaders, has recommended development of a new training room at WAHS for student athletes and conversion of the old training room into locker rooms for female coaches and officials. The Foundation already has received a gift of $100,000 for planning, design and construction of additional music practice rooms at WAHS to accommodate the growing number of students involved in music programs across the district.
